The Edward G. Irvin Foundation

About Us
The foundation is named after one of the ten founders of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Edward G. Irvin. The Edward G. Irvin Foundation (EGIF) was established in 2001 as the philanthropic and fiduciary arm of the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter’s charitable, educational, and housing and land development functions. These functions include (but are not limited to) the Guide Right, Kappa League, Scholarship, Youth Development Programs, and Housing. The EGIF is a separate, non-profit, tax-exempt, publicly supported organization. This foundation is organized exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary, and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The EGIF Charter Members are Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter Past Polemarchs: J.W. Smith, Lucius Earles, Major Armstead, Melvin Hopson, and Ned Dunbar.
Fund development is an ongoing endeavor for the Foundation. The Foundation's goal is to endow the scholarship and youth-oriented programs, as well as to facilitate the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter's civic programs, community engagement, and advocacy. Each year, EGIF awards scholarships to deserving young men at a scholarship luncheon as they matriculate to college.
“...the work of EGIF and the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter is invaluable to these young men, our families, and our communities at large. THANK YOU for your unwavering support throughout the years and years to come…The Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi ROCKS!!!”
- Pamela Brown, mother of Matthew Robinson and EGIF Scholarship recipient
In 2013, the Edward G. Irvin Foundation acquired a community center facility at 67th & Woodlawn in Chicago’s South Side Woodlawn community. The center was formerly an affiliate of the Jane Addams Hull House Association, known as Parkway Community House. Parkway Community House had a long and rich history in Chicago, first in Bronzeville and later in Woodlawn. The Edward G. Irvin Foundation Center aims to extend that legacy by housing our programs and serving as a beacon of light in our community, by serving the underprivileged.
