Nupes Hoops 2 is a sports activity of the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter’s Health & Wellness Committee that promotes athleticism, competition, and overall health. It features a weekly 3-on-3 basketball tournament that occurs every Wednesday, April 29 – July 1, 2026, at the Edward G. Irvin Foundation Achievement Center gymnasium. It is led by Brother Glenn Brooks (Gamma Upsilon 1992).

 

Nupes Hoops 2 has extended its reach to promote health and wellness beyond the hardwood. It is a weekly men’s and women’s health & wellness initiative focused on health, connection, and community. It features free health screenings, nutrition management instruction, haircuts, and live entertainment. Various BGLO Sororities are invited as special guests each week.

 

The 10-week series of events is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Onyx 360, Jewel-Osco, Coca-Cola, Vitamin Water, BJ’s Market, Health Heroes, Mitts Apparel, and Kamp Around Kids.

 

Nupes Hoop 2 is a revitalized version of the original program, Nupes Hoop®, which operated for 20 seasons. The original Nupes Hoop Basketball League and Mentoring Program was founded in the fall of 1999 by Brother James Beckom (Beta 1990). Brother Beckhom, along with the assistance of brothers from the Beta, Zeta Mu, Kappa Phi, Kappa Alpha, Theta Gamma, Gamma Upsilon, and Iota Kappa Chapters, constructed an adult basketball league comprised wholly of KAΨ members. The league began with 7 teams.

 

In its early stages, all teams were required to mentor high school students. The goal of the league was to promote fellowshipping, mentoring, and support of inner-city Chicago public schools. During its existence, Nupes Hoop donated over $10,000 to inner-city high schools, park districts, and alumni chapters. At its height, the league boasted participation of over 100 brothers per season and had a lifetime cumulative grand-total membership of over 200 brothers.

 

Along with its core program, Nupes Hoop also sponsored three additional community-based events, including the 1st and 2nd Annual Black Greek Charity Basketball Tournaments and the Black Greek Basketball League, The League. In each instance, Nupes Hoop worked with members of other Black Greek Letter Organizations (ΩΨΦ, AΦA, ΦBΣ, AKA, ΔΣΘ) and the Prince Hall Masons to orchestrate the events.
